COST: $55

Presented by
John Spiegel, J.D., Family Mediator and Donna Duquette, J.D., Family Mediator

Program Description
Part of what makes separation and divorce such a difficult life transition is that, in a time of tremendous emotional upheaval, spouses must deal with a series of critical legal and financial issues. Adversarial legal proceedings often make things worse, by escalating the conflict and imposing huge costs on the family, both economic and emotional.
This talk is designed to help therapists become knowledgeable about the legal aspects of separation and divorce and about divorce mediation as a humane alternative to divorce.
Program Objectives
Participants will learn:
• The process and benefits of mediation
• The substantive legal issues connected with separation and divorce in Maryland
• How to decide whether to refer separating and divorcing clients to mediation, collaborative law, or adversarial law
