Mental Health Resource/Training

This most recent tragedy that happened in Colorado gives all of us pause, once again, to consider the impact of mental health relative to our individual and to our community’s safety. In speaking of the tragedy both law enforcement and mental health professionals emphasize the critical need for everyone to become more informed on mental health issues and to learn how to appropriately refer concerns so that proactive intervention can be initiated when it is needed.

We are very fortunate at Montgomery College to have leaders who embrace the concept that it takes all of us, working together, to keep our campus communities safe. The collegewide Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and CPOD purchased access to the Kognito, “At Risk” software program that will help us identify and deal with the most common behavior problems that show up in college classrooms and on campus every semester. The training takes only 30 to 40 minutes and it is valuable training for anyone who has frequent interactions with college-age students!

The responses of the avatar characters in the training are very realistic. This program will give faculty and staff useful information and tips on how to approach and address issues. A few of our MC colleagues have already taken the “At Risk” training and they unanimously agree.

Please take the time to acquaint yourself with this training. It is convenient! You can take this training from any computer 24/7. If you are interrupted you can simply log-off and return at a later time. If you finish the training and later want to review some of the points – just log on and help yourself!
