This most recent tragedy that happened in Colorado gives all of us pause, once again, to consider the impact of mental health relative to our individual and to our community’s safety. In speaking of the tragedy both law enforcement and mental health professionals emphasize the critical need for everyone to become more informed on mental health issues and to learn how to appropriately refer concerns so that proactive intervention can be initiated when it is needed. We are very fortunate at Montgomery College to have leaders who embrace the concept that it takes all of us, working together, to keep our campus communities safe. The collegewide Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and CPOD purchased access to the Kognito, “At Risk” software program that will help us identify and deal with the most common behavior problems that show up in college classrooms and on campus every semester.
