Audrey Wolfson Latourette , J.D., Professor of Law, Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, and NACADA Past President Thomas Grites will discuss potential Legal Implications of Academic Advising. The presentation will include:
· A review of the posture of courts with respect to intervention in both the public and private college and university context
· An analysis of a variety of legal theories employed by students to enforce statements issued by academic advisors or other representatives of the university
·Strategies to limit individuals’ and institutions’ potential liabilities

This course will prepare participants in identifying the potential risk factors and warning signs for a range of mental health problems, including: depression, anxiety, psychosis, eating disorders, self injury, substance use and bipolar disorders and provide a 5-step action plan to use in mental health crisis situations.
