It is time for the health care disciplines and our general culture to integrate the facts of aging, dying, death and grief within a broad vision of what a healthy last chapter of life looks like. Stories of success – brilliant and effective programs of care or people expressing a sense of wellness in the midst of difficult circumstances – often challenge our assumptions and expand the realm of what we consider possible. Dr. Byock will explore the hopeful clinical, cultural and even political implications of affirmative visions for these difficult, but normal, times in human life.
Speaker : Ira Byock , MD is Director of Palliative Medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire and a Professor at Dartmouth Medical School.
